Importance of Early Chiropractic Care

A lot of parents are relying on the benefits of natural methods of healthcare such as chiropractic techniques to maintain the well-being of their children. While serving nutritious meals to the family and making regular visits to the family physician are necessary to keep your children healthy, regular checkups must also be done with regard to their musculoskeletal system. More people are getting introduced to the importance of this area of their children’s healthcare needs.

Is it safe for children?

Several research studies have verified that chiropractic care is safe and effective for children. If you are worrying that your infant might get hurt when undergoing chiropractic care, you need to know that the amount of force applied is minimal. Chiropractors are well trained and they know just how much pressure is enough to help your child. There are a few professional chiropractic services Chiefland Florida can offer you.

Why is chiropractic care necessary for children?

According to Wolff’s Law, our bones can model themselves based in the external physical force placed upon them. If we want our bones to develop as best as possible, proper joint movement can help in distributing the force equally. Since growing children are constantly undergoing skeletal growth, chiropractic care can help in balancing the distribution of force between the joints and muscles.

During childhood, the nervous system also develops rapidly. This rapid development means that there are several developments in the brain and spinal cord, as well as the nerves inside the body. To achieve optimal coordination in development, it is necessary that your child undergo chiropractic care. Look around for the most reliable and experienced chiropractor in Chiefland, Florida to assure that your children can get the best chiropractic care available.

Benefits of chiropractic care for children

Chiropractic care for children has proven to have a hugely positive impact on several childhood health conditions. Although it does not necessarily cure or treat these conditions, children suffering from issues have shown improvement in health after undergoing chiropractic care. Some of these conditions are:

• Ear infections
• Colic
• Common cold
• Constipation
• Growing pains
• Scoliosis
• Breastfeeding difficulties
• Bed wetting
• Sports injuries
• Birthing trauma

No child is too young to undergo chiropractic care. Even newborns that are just minutes old usually undergo chiropractic examination. The birthing process can cause a lot of physical strain on both the mother and the baby, so early chiropractic care is highly recommended. Take your kids to the most experienced and reliable chiropractor Chiefland, Florida can offer.

Back Pain Relief through Regular Chiropractic Visits

Many people tend to put off a visit to the chiropractor due to many reasons. Most of us only find the need to undergo chiropractic care after facing a major problem with the musculoskeletal system. For those who are experiencing back pain, chiropractic treatment can offer several benefits that other forms of treatment may not offer. In addition to relieving the pain, it also helps in realigning the spine properly to prevent future problems. Several reputable chiropractors in Chiefland, Florida are experienced in working with people suffering from back pain.

It is important to remember that regular chiropractic evaluations are necessary to maintain physical well-being and to prevent other problems. It helps spot weakness in joints and relieves the pressure on the joints through realignment of the posture and bones.

How does it work?

Before a chiropractor works on your back, the physician will first examine your medical history. This is followed by physical examination, and sometimes lab tests and diagnostic imaging are also used. This process can help in determining whether the chiropractic treatment is suitable for you and your back pain.

When you start the treatment plan, you may need to undergo one or more adjustments, which the doctor will perform on you manually. This process manipulates your joints through a sudden but controlled force. This will help in improving the quality and the range of motion. Several chiropractic services in Chiefland, Florida are well experienced in treating back pain.

Benefiting from regular chiropractic visits

Chiropractic care is considered to be an effective and safe method of treating acute back pain. It is generally used to treat those who are experiencing back pain due to sudden injuries that result from being hit, moving heavy objects, or falling on the stairs. Although this type of pain usually gets better without requiring much treatment, chiropractic care can help reducing the time taken for recovery, and in adjusting your bones and muscles for long-term healing.

It is necessary to visit your chiropractor on a regular basis to get relief for your back pain. Chiropractic care is highly preferred by many people with chronic back pain as it not only helps in relieving the symptoms and discomfort, but it also improves the functioning of the bones and muscles.

Achieving Wellness through Chiropractic Kineso Taping

Our Team

‘Kineso taping’ is a taping method used in chiropractics that makes use of an elastic tape for therapeutic purposes. Even though the method of taping became more prominent because of its extensive use in athletics, the scope of kinesiology is not limited to athletics. It can be used to correct several non-athletic ailments as well. Athletic tapes are usually stiff and serve the purpose of holding the joints and muscles of an athlete in one particular position. However, the kineso tape is quite flexible and does not restrict the movement of muscles or joints, but it only helps in maintaining the relative position of muscles and joints.

Uses of kineso tape

Kineso tapes can be used to help several ailments, but there are four major areas where it can be used very effectively. These areas are mentioned below.

 Adjusting joint movement
 Pain relief
 Adjusting muscle movement
 Enhancing blood circulation to lymph and muscles

Due to its diverse functions, a kineso tape could be worn both during and after performing an activity. Today, tapes come with a wide range of properties; they are more adhesive and help enhance performance. There are also studies currently being conducted on how a kineso tape could be used in an office environment to improve performance.

Applying a kineso tape

The application of a kineso tape does not differ based on the purpose of application. For example, applying the kineso tape for the purpose of an athletic event is same as the procedure that needs to be followed, when applying the tape for regular non-athletic purposes. These tapes could be worn for several days at a stretch, and you could also wear it in water, as they are water resistant. However, those with sensitive skin should avoid wearing it for longer periods as it may cause skin irritation. Similarly, it is also advised that the tape be applied only for a day whenever geriatric and pediatric patients are considered.

According to Dr. Bennitt Petterson, one thing that you must always bear in mind as far as kineso tapes are considered is that, these tapes, even though highly useful, are not a final solution to your ailments. The kineso tapes are a part of the rehabilitation process for any injury. It is not a replacement for a cast. However, the duration of usage may vary greatly depending on the type of injury, the depth of injury, and individual needs. Ensure that you visit a qualified Tri-Country Chiropractic, Chiefland to get the best chiropractic care.

Stretch for Good Health

As many doctors will tell you, stretching is one of the most important habits you can form for continued good health. Many injuries to bones, muscles and connective tissue would be reduced and healing time minimized if the patient would have embraced stretching as a wellness routine.

Our bodies were meant to move, but many of us do not move enough to maintain adequate ranges of motion around our joints. As we lose flexibility we may be more prone to injury from muscle pulls, or if the muscle/fascia imbalance is one-sided, a joint may be pulled out of alignment creating discomfort or pain. Stretching is an easy and relaxing way to maintain your range of motion, and to increase it if needed.

For best results, stretch gently enough to feel a pull, but no pain, and as you hold the stretch over 30 seconds to a minute or two, wait to feel the area loosen. If you feel a tightening sensation as you are holding the stretch, you are probably stretching too hard, and the muscle is contracting in order to prevent injury, which ultimately defeats the purpose. Be certain that you feel the stretch between the joints and not at the joints, as it is important not to stretch the ligaments that hold your bones together, nor the tendons that connect the muscles to the bones. For example, as you stretch your hamstrings on the back of your upper leg, you do not want to feel the stretch behind the knee. Try bending your knee slightly, or adjusting the angle of your leg to move the stretch into the muscle.

You may notice as you stretch, that one side feels tighter than the other. Your stretching goal is to achieve balance, so stretch the tight side twice as long. A few weeks to months later, when both sides seem even, stretch them equally, and congratulate yourself on correcting a muscle imbalance!

Stretching needs to be done a minimum of five days a week to be effective. Once or twice a week will not achieve results. So schedule 15 to 20 minutes daily, and enjoy the luxury of a relaxing stretch. It will feel wonderful, and is a soothing way to let go of some of the day to day stress that infiltrates our being.

Wellness – Nutrition Advice

There is no better way to rejuvenate your health than by eating more nutritiously. In fact, even a few simple changes in your diet and lifestyle can have a positive impact on your health-and can also prevent a variety of health problems in the future.

The traditional coffee and doughnuts for breakfast; a hamburger for lunch-or no lunch; candy, cookies, and a soft drink for a snack; followed by a huge dinner with more protein than a person needs-are unhealthy dietary choices. As a result, younger people are starting to suffer from heart disease-not only because of poor diet, but also because of an epidemic of inactivity.

To reverse the alarming trend, many doctors of chiropractic urge patients to stop smoking, eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and augment their balanced diet with appropriate nutritional supplements.

What Can You Do?
The ACA offers the following prevention and wellness advice:

Lifestyle Changes
•Exercise at least 20 to 30 minutes three or four days a week.
•Eat out more sparingly. Food preparation methods in restaurants often involve high amounts-and the wrong types-of fat and sugar.
•Brown-bag your lunch to control your fat and sugar content while adding nutritious fruits, vegetables, and grains.
•Limit your intake of alcohol and quit smoking. Drinking alcohol excessively and/or smoking hinder your body’s ability to absorb nutrients from your food.
Dietary Changes
•Eat more raw foods. Cooking and canning destroys much of the nutrition in foods. With the exception of canned tomatoes, which can help prevent prostate cancer,1 fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables always have more natural vitamins and minerals.
•Select organically grown foods when possible, because they have lower amounts of toxic elements, such as pesticides and heavy metals.
•Consume 25 to 30 grams of fiber a day. Whole-grain breads and cereals, beans, nuts, and some fruits and vegetables are good sources of fiber. High-fiber diets can help prevent digestive disorders, heart disease, and colon cancer.
•Drink eight to ten 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and alcohol are dehydrators. Don’t substitute them for water.
Vegetarian Diets
Research shows that a good vegetarian diet as part of a comprehensive health program can help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.2,3 However, fried foods, hydrogenated fats, and commercial meat substitutes may contain more sugar and fat than a meat-eater would consume.

If you are considering a vegetarian diet, keep the following tips in mind:
•Don’t rely on fruits and vegetables at the expense of grains and legumes. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables to consume a wide range of nutrients.
•Tiredness, malaise, and anemia can be signs of deficiencies. Have your B12 and iron levels checked at least once a year.
•Consume fortified foods or take supplements to obtain the nutrients you no longer get from animal-based products, such as vitamin B12.
•Before eliminating animal products from the diet, learn to do it right. Children, pregnant and breast-feeding women, and people recovering from illness should consult their health care practitioners.
Supplements According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, dietary supplements are not substitutes for foods, nor can a person sustain good health by just taking vitamin and mineral supplements.4 When taken properly, however, supplements can play an important role in achieving maximum health. If you are considering nutritional supplements, keep the following tips in mind:
•Remember to consume dark green vegetables, oils, nuts, and seeds, which are sources of magnesium, fatty acids, and many other vitamins and minerals.
Don’t “self-prescribe.” Consult a health care practitioner, such as a doctor of chiropractic, to determine what supplements are best for you. If you have symptoms such as headaches, chronic fatigue, or cardiac problems, seek professional advice from a health care provider who specializes in nutrition.

About Spine and Disc Degeneration

As we all age, our spine can slowly age as well and in some cases spinal bones will begin to deform. When this occurs, your spinal disks will swell, and then shrink. The ligaments tendons and muscles and the spine begin to harden and weaken and the entire spinal column will lose its balance. This is referred to as spinal and/or disc degeneration. Spinal / disc degeneration can lead to a loss of balance, flexibility, stability and strength.

Spinal degeneration can lead to an overall lessened ability to adapt to normal daily activities. A common result of spinal degeneration is the loss of height. We often tend to assume that older individuals get shorter over time automatically – but this is not entirely true and spinal degeneration is the typical root cause for shortened height.

What about the causes of Spinal Degeneration?

Vertebral subluxations are often the root cause of spinal degeneration. Vertebral subluxations are caused by spinals stress which will cause spinal vertebrae to shift from their proper places. These vertebrae become irrigated and misaligned. Also, the surrounding nerves, bones discs and other tissue will age and slowly deteriorate. There are many phases to spinal degeneration and overall it is a slow process. The good news to focus on is that spine and disc degeneration are treatable.

The important thing to take away from this article is that chiropractic care can reduce, halt and even reverse spinal degeneration.

At Tri-County Chiropractic, we treat spine and disc degeneration. If some of the symptoms described above reflect your situation or the condition of a loved one, please contact us today for an evaluation. We also have some great resources on our website including information on what to expect during your first visit.

Do you suffer from head aches? Chiropractic care may help.

From a

If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea.

What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative.

Research shows that spinal manipulation – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches and that those who ceased chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast with those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.

Headache Triggers

Headaches have many causes, or “triggers.” These may include foods, environmental stimuli (noises, lights, stress, etc.) and/or behaviors (insomnia, excessive exercise, blood sugar changes, etc.). About 5 percent of all headaches are warning signals caused by physical problems.

Ninety-five percent of headaches are primary headaches, such as tension, migraine, or cluster headaches. These types of headaches are not caused by disease. The headache itself is the primary concern.

“The greatest majority of primary headaches are associated with muscle tension in the neck,” says Dr. George B. McClelland, a doctor of chiropractic from Christiansburg, VA. “Today, Americans engage in more sedentary activities than they used to, and more hours are spent in one fixed position or posture. This can increase joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck, upper back and scalp, causing your head to ache.”
